The Pretty Things Peep Show

The evening started early with us setting out the venue café style, unlike our usual stand up rock club look!
We put some sweets, a single rose, candles (romantic) & bubbles on the table for our guests. The girls from the peep show were setting up their merchandise table full of these lovely nipple tassels that were all hand made by Go Go Amy, every colour, shape & size you could think of.

Doors opened at half 7 where a lot of unsure faces walked through the door, none of us knew what to expect from the show! Some people made an amazing effort and dressed in their finest vintage gear, us at The Robin 2 are dress up as well (any excuse ).

The show started about 8:45 with this very tall man with stripy clothes and a curly moustache came on to the stage, went by the name of Donny Vomit, (we learn about the name later on) he captures our attention with his whitty American ways.

He introduces the 1st act Go Go Amy where she does a classy burlesque number which pulls the audience in and we are all amazed and opened into the world of pin up / burlesque, Go Go Amy is very beautiful and brings a real art to the burlesque.

Next on stage is Little Miss FireFly a talented women who is no bigger than 3ft who sent us all in a trance watching her burlesque performance followed by Rachael Renegade (The Pin Proof Princess) who through out the night gets you watching through squinted eyes and parted fingers!

In between the acts done by the stunning women Donny Vomit performs some shocking, gagging & mesmerising tricks, he hammers a steel nail through his nose at one point which made me pull a lovely face left by confusion of how he had done this, and the sounds of this trick shows the mics are in good order haha.
Donny also shows he is very handy with a whip, breaking rice noodles that was held by parts you wouldn’t want whipping!
He also decides to juggle with some very large machetes while trying to eat an apple, I then decided being at the front was not the best idea, although we did get the apple with a nice bite out of it after the trick.
The most epic trick of the night has got to be when he called a lovely audience member who really didn’t want to go up, pull a sword from his throat. (Will get that video on our Facebook page you have to see it to believe it!)

donny nail in nose

In between Danny Vomitt we had the 3 lovey ladies perform for us to different numbers of vintage 50s tracks, and some thrilling outfits!

Rachael Renegade shocks us all when she lay on a bed of nails and Go Go Amy stood on her, she also got a very big strong man with a sledge hammer break a breeze block on her, (so glad these tricks have not gone wrong!).
Rachael then manages to swallow razor sharp blades followed by a bit of string & finishes off the act by pulling all the blades out attached to the string! (OMG) jaw was on the table at that point.

Rachael + strong man

Little Miss FireFly had us all in awe when she walked across a sea of broken glass. Such a massive personality and stage presence for such a little lady!

The night finishes off with the audience able to go up on stage & see Go Go Amy twisted in a box with lots of sharp blades through it, definitely interesting to see.

They all hang around after the show by the merchandise table so everybody could have photos, A chat & even get a lesson off of Go Go Amy on how to dance with nipple tassels on.

amys bum

This show outdid itself and I could never of imagined it to be as good as it was, One of the best Tuesday nights I’ve ever had, very glad we got to have them here at The Robin, and hope to have them back with us in the future.

The Frankie Valli Story Jersey Boy Thursday 6th December

fv3We have got the best seats in the house right up the front brilliant view of the stage and the star of the show Stephen James.

The show tells the story of Frankie Valli’s rise of fame all done and edited by Stephen James on a projector, and throughout the story we have Stephen doing live covers of all Frankie Vallis hit, even my personal favourite ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’.

His voice is incredible, we think it can’t be him singing, sounds like Mr Valli is in the room with us!!

He finishes the show on Grease is the Word, which I never knew was done by Frankie Valli, I really want to go home and watch grease now haha.

After the performance he has a little chat with the audience and does a bit of ‘Sherry Baby’ Acapella.

His Voice is actually that good! We are gob smacked!

This is such a good show can’t wait to see Stephen back here on July 4th we will for sure be there singing along, you don’t actually realise how many songs Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons did that you know. We even Purchased a CD of Stephens on the night, absolutely fantastic!!

Saturday 11th A…

Image

Saturday 11th August was a great day! 7pm, we arrived at the Robin 2 all ready for our night out at the Bon Giovi show.

We went into the venue (not really knowing what we was doing!) to see the guys before the show started. Tico, the drummer of the band said “he and the band would help us out and answer some questions” for us.

When we arrived in the dressing room, the band were all relaxing before the show. Disturbing a very comfy looking ‘David Bryan’, he scootled up and we sat.

Again, being total ‘newbies’ at this (a giggling mess), we started to have a chat with the guys.

They said that they have played 3 times at the Robin, and think it’s the best for audience and sound tech. They love it!!

The band started in 1999, and they say this is the best line up that they have had in the band, after how its chopped and changed over the years.

Now, the frontman himself, ‘Jon’, walks in (he’s got the same hair as Bon Jovi!!!). From Italy, but when he’s on stage you would really think he’s from New Jersey!

‘David Bryan’ said he has actually met the real David Bryan in real life (wow!) and the actual ‘Bon Jovi’ must like them as a band, as they don’t stop them paying tribute to them.

******************************************************************

After our chat with the guys upstairs, to calm the giggles we had a Jagerbomb from the bar, seemed to work J

The show opened with E.T.A, a melodic rock band, covering a variety of AOR/melodic rock bands plus they do some of their original material too.

They were great, and really warmed up the crowd nicely, everyone was dancing away and really enjoying it!

At this point, we had a photo call with the Bon Giovi guys upstairs in our restaurant with the awesome photographer Rob Stanley www.robstanley-photography.co.uk/

After our ‘rock star’ photoshoot, they guys took to the stage, and started the show. THEY ROCKED IT!!!

They started the show, and everyone was on their feet, clapping and singing along.

‘Jon’ is a great Bon Jovi soundalike aswell as look alike, and the band recreate the iconic sound that is unmistakably Bon Jovi!

Their setlist included: ‘You Give Live A Bad Name’ – ‘Keep The Faith’ – ‘Bed Of Roses’ – ‘Wanted, Dead Or Alive’ – Always’ – Livin’ On A Prayer’ – In Your Arms Tonight’…

The Christians – Friday 27 September 2013

The ChristiansTHE CHRISTIANS are an outstanding, soul influenced group who had hits in the late 80s and 90s from their million selling album of the same name including Forgotten Town, Born Again, Ideal World, Hooverville … shortly followed by the number one hit album Colours which heralded the magnificent tracks Words and Father. The band were also renowned for the strong messages and morals in their songs, which by the way have no religious connection (its just their surname!). The Daily Mirror described the voice of Garry Christian as ‘One of the best voices of the century’.

Fast forward 25 years and the group are stil headed by their unique selling point … the smooth toned Mr Christian … who sounds (and looks) as good as ever! With a brand new album launch in May 2012 and the rerelease of the anniversary albums early in the year … 2012 looks to be a great year for the return of THE CHRISTIANS.
